AFAS Course – Department of Agriculture QPS Methyl bromide treatments

AFAS training involves the theoretical and practical elements of performing quarantine and preshipment fumigations in compliance with the requirements of Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

 

AFAS course by CQ ProTrain

This program is hosted by Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry approved trainers and assessors that have a hands on working knowledge of the processes invloved.

The program involve both classroom and field components including the carrying out of a live Methyl bromide fumigation.

All candidates are required to attend and complete all components of this program.

Who is this course for?

This course may suit the following people.

  • Licenced Fumigation Technicians.
  • Trainee Fumigation Technicians.
  • Administration personnel involved in the processing of fumigation documentation
  • Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Quarantine Officers

Pre-Requisites

Potential candidates must be licenced fumigators able to demonstrate experience or must have completed a ProTrain fumigation workshop prior to attending this program.

 

Candidates will be assessed under the  Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry AFAS Quarantine and pre shipment Methyl Bromide fumigation methodology.

 

The program is not suitable for administrators who wish to understand the principles & practices involved or government officers who are looking to be involved in fumigation audits.

Program Delivery

1 DAY FACE-TO-FACE WORKSHOP

Friday after the conclusion of the Fumigation licencing workshop.

8:30am to approx. 4:30pm, lunch included.

Completion

To successfully complete this AFAS course you will need to:

  • Attend all daily sessions.
  • Complete all theory assessment tasks.
  • Participate in a combined practical assessment.
  • Attend an interview.

Upon completion, successful candidates will be issued with an AFAS QPS Methyl Bromide Fumigation Methodology Statement of Accreditation by Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry in Canberra.

What Do I Need To Bring?

You will need to bring:

  • Biro
  • Pencil
  • Calculator
  • PPE – Full face mask & appropriate respirator cartridge will be required as candidates will be entering the actual designated Risk Area during the practical work tasks.
  • Gas cannisters required for the workshop should be of the “AX” O type suitable for Methyl bromide. (ProTrain is able to supply these if required, please indicate this when booking).
  • Suitable clothing and footwear for use on site including high visibility shirt or vest, long trousers, enclosed shoes, safety glasses, hat & sunscreen.

Fee is inclusive of all venue charges, practical on-site charges, consumables, presentation materials, text books, and handouts.

Payment can be made via EFTPOS or direct deposit any time prior to program commencement.

ProTrain reserves the right to postpone workshops should minimum numbers not be met.
