Qualification Description

CPP30119 Certificate III in Urban Pest Management reflects the role of pest management technicians who are required to:

Identify common urban pests

Assess pest problems

Consider pest management options

Develop pest management plans

Liaise with customers

Implement pest management strategies.

 

In most cases, technicians work alone with responsibility for managing chemicals and equipment used for pest management and stored in pest management vehicles.

 

Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to pest management in some states and territories. For further information, check with the relevant regulatory authority.

Completing Cert III in Urban Pest Management and what's involved:

This qualification may be completed through a combination of Face to Face Classroom learning and workplace based learning, or it may be completed remotely by workplace learning.

 

Alternatively if a candidate feels that they have sufficient workplace experience and subject knowledge, they may be eligible to complete the Qualification through the Recognition of Prior Learning process. This qualification includes a minimum of 10 units of competency

5 Core units (all 5 must be completed) and

Candidates must select a minimum of 5 Elective units of competency to complete

CPPUPM3005 Manage pests without applying pesticides

CPPUPM3006 Manage pests by applying pesticides

CPPUPM3017 Maintain, service and repair pest management equipment

CPPUPM3018 Maintain equipment and pesticide storage area in pest management vehicles

 

ELECTIVE UNITS (must choose and complete at least 5 units of competency)

CPPUPM3008 Inspect for and report on timber pests

CPPUPM3010 Control timber pests

 

CPPUPM3042 Install termite management systems

 

CPPUPM4003 Assess and advise on pest management options for sensitive operations

CPPUPM4005 Implement and monitor pest management plans for sensitive operations

 

CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry

HLTAID011 Provide first aid (may be selected if completing with another provider and providing evidence of completion)

 

CPPUPM4004 Assess and advise on pest management options for complex operations

CPPUPM4006 Implement and monitor pest management plans for complex operations

 

CPPUPM3011 Manage organisms by applying fumigants to commodities and environments

 

CPCCCM2012 Work safely at heights (may be selected if completing with another provider and providing evidence of completion)

 

AHCCHM304 Transport and store chemicals

AHCCHM307 Prepare and apply chemicals to control pest, weeds and diseases

 

Up to 2 elective units may be selected from any training package, as long as they contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome and maintain the AQF level of this qualification. Candidates would need to discuss this with a Protrain Assessor to determine validity.
