Pest Management Licensing in Australia & New Zealand
Licensing is handled separately by each state and territory — there's no single national licence. Completing the right ProTrain course gives you a Statement of Attainment, which you then use to apply to your local regulator. Choose your location below to see what's required.

NSW has separate licence types for pest management technicians, fumigators, timber pest management technicians, and applicators.
What you'll generally need
- To be 18 years or older
- Completed CPPUPM3005, CPPUPM3006 and CPPUPM3018 — our General Pest Management course covers all three
- Additional units depending on the licence type, such as Timber Pest or Fumigation
Applications are made through Service NSW / eConnect EPA.

Queensland pest management is governed by the Medicines and Poisons Act 2019 and its Pest Management Activities Regulation 2021, administered by Queensland Health.

WA licensing runs through the WA Department of Health. You typically start with a provisional licence, then progress to a full technician licence with endorsements:

- Termite & timber
- Fumigation

Requirements vary by jurisdiction — for example, Victorian licences are issued by the Victorian Department of Health, and South Australia has some additional unit requirements beyond the national standard.

In some cases, an interstate licence can be recognised in another state under Automatic Mutual Recognition (AMR) after notifying the new state's regulator — contact our team if you'd like help checking whether this applies to you.

In New Zealand, completing our NZ Urban Pest Management course qualifies you to operate as an Urban Pest Management Contractor (Qualified).
Some substances also require an EPA New Zealand Approved Handler certification. PMANZ (Pest Management Association of New Zealand) is the relevant industry body worth joining once you're working in the field.
