For Pest Management Technicians Expanding into Termite, Borer and Decay Management

ProTrain delivers nationally recognised training for technicians seeking to develop the skills required to inspect for and manage timber pests including termites, borers and wood decay fungi.
This online program provides the underpinning knowledge and workplace evidence needed to perform timber pest inspections, reporting, and management programs in compliance with AEPMA codes of Practice and Australian Standards AS 4349.3, AS 3660 Series.

The program is designed for licensed pest managers who already hold general pest competencies and are working under the supervision of a licensed Timber Pest Management Technician.

Units of Competency

This qualification stream includes the following two nationally recognised units:

  • CPPUPM3008 – Inspect for and report on timber pests
  • CPPUPM3010 – Control timber pests

Completion of both units provides the essential competencies required for carrying out timber pest inspections and treatments, and contributes credit toward the CPP30119 Certificate III in Urban Pest Management.

Pre-Requisites

To enrol, you must:

  • Hold (or be eligible for) a current Pest Management Technician licence for General Pest.
  • Be currently employed or have a pre-arranged work placement in the pest-management industry.
  • Be working under the supervision of a licensed Timber Pest Technician.
  • Have a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI). Apply for a USI here.

Program Delivery - 100% Online + Workplace Evidence

This program is delivered entirely online through the ProTrain Student Portal (Axcelerate).
Learning combines interactive e-lessons, workplace logbook tasks and online assessment with a ProTrain assessor.

You’ll complete the qualification through four integrated components:

A. Course Learning & Online Assessments

Upon enrolment you’ll gain access to:

  • Interactive e-learning modules and digital study guides
  • ProTrain reference materials and Australian Standard summaries
  • Self-marking quizzes and short video tutorials
  • Research and case-study activities

B. Supervised Workplace Training
Complete at least 10 timber-pest inspections and management programs, covering subterranean termites, drywood termites, borers, and fungal decay.
All work is recorded in your ProTrain e-logbook and verified by your licensed supervisor.

C. Practical Evidence Submission
Upload:

  • Photographs and/or videos showing inspections, probing techniques, and treatment applications
  • Completed inspection reports, safety documentation, and site records

D. Final Online Practical Assessment
After theory and evidence are approved, complete a live online practical assessment with a ProTrain assessor via secure video call.
Learners have up to 12 months to complete all components.

Practical Evidence Requirements

To be assessed as competent, trainees must demonstrate:

  • Evidence of at least 10 timber-pest inspection and treatment jobs (domestic and commercial)
  • Correct identification of timber-pest species and damage types
  • Accurate inspection reporting and treatment proposals
  • Use and maintenance of equipment and tools
  • Compliance with WHS and environmental requirements

All evidence is uploaded and reviewed through the ProTrain Online Portal.

This qualification stream meets the minimum competency requirements for performing timber pest inspections, reporting and treatment activities under Australian licensing frameworks.
